World Anti-Doping Agency - Banned List

The World Anti-Doping Agency has decided to remove caffeine and pseudoephedrine, from the list of banned substances for international sports. Pseudoephedrine is an ingredient found in many over-the-counter cold and flu medications. The change was intended to prevent athletes who took common cold remedies or drank cola or coffee from getting suspended or disgraced.

Last week, the head of WADA’s medical research committee said the list would be changed to reflect changing times. In a statement issued before the final news conference, the agency mentioned the changes but they have provided no further details.

The research on caffeine shows that even in moderate doses (200mgs) enhances performance is a variety in sports. The results on pseudoephedrine’s ability to enhance performance are equivocal. However, if these substances are combined, I suspect the effects of one would definitely potentate the effects of the other.

The removal of these substances from the banned list would provide athletes with a nice, legal performance-enhancing stack.
