According to a new study, drinking three or more cups of coffee per day may reduce the risk of ovarian cancer in women by over 20%.

In Britain, ovarian cancer causes more than 4,000 deaths per year. Last year alone, a total of 14,657 women in the United States died from ovarian cancer.

In this investigation, data from over 121,000 females in the United States was obtained throughout several years of lifestyle questionnaires. After the appropriate statistics were used to account for age, weight and dietary discrepancies, a significant (20%) risk reduction in ovarian cancer was reported among all the women that consumed caffeine-containing beverages regularly (500 milligrams or more per day).

It’s interesting to note that the benefits of coffee consumption appeared to be related to the caffeine content of the beverages; no benefits were associated with drinking decaffeinated coffee.

Gals before you go rushing off to Starbucks, always remember that questionnaire-type studies such as these do not examine a cause and effect relationship. They are simply meant to identify significant associations that warrant further research. More and more of these studies are identifying significant health benefits from coffee and caffeine consumption.

The take home message here is that a few cups of coffee every day, doesn’t look like its going to kill you. And it might promote some important health benefits that will prolong your lifespan.
