Research - Screaming at your training partner! WHy!

In the gym some bodybuilders like to scream encouragement to their partners during the lift, but are they really helping their partner’s performance? The latest research on this topic suggests that some forms of verbal encouragement do help an athlete lift heavier weight.

This study used 32 female lifters divided into three groups as they performed a bench press exercise. Each group was given some form of verbal communication during each 1 rep-max attempt. The results showed that the group who received verbal feedback of their performance during each attempt did perform better in the 1RM test. Therefore, it does appear that encouraging your partner with verbal feedback may help them get more from each set.
