Muscle Movements

Muscles produce force via three different contractions;

1. concentric (the muscle shortens),
2. static (force without movement) and
3. eccentrically (the muscle lengthens).

Canadian researchers have recently made an important discovery regarding the best contractions that stimulate maximum increases in muscle size.

According to their results, high-speed eccentric contractions produce the most force, recruit the most muscle fibers and therefore, have the greatest potential to trigger muscle hypertrophy. The researchers obtained their results on humans using a Biodex; an expensive piece of strength testing equipment.

During each rep, the concentric phase is performed explosively then the weight is lowered quickly, but under control.
