Indeed,

Interestingly The English word "spirit" comes from the Latin spiritus, meaning "breath" (compare spiritus asper), but also "soul, courage, vigor"

Breath is the only facet of existence that can be controlled volitionally or not at all, ie. it is of subconscious and conscious existence, via the Phrenic Nerve.

Interestingly, phrenic means "Of or relating to the mind"

Thus Spirit is the conscious awakening of the mind. And we do that via reflection and meditation.

Incidentally, Conscious Awakening of the mind also means to seek out Truth, the word Sikh is often mis-transliterated into Seekh, or in english Seek, as in Seeker...

Truth is one and the same in the Universe,

for example the mathematic expression of 1,

would be the same in any language, any species, and corner of the UNiverse,
